Nov. 29th - Dec. 3rd

☀️Back to December☀️

Our Week...

This week we began a new Literacy project. We've been looking at 'the Hero's Journey' and working to understand each stage of the story structure. Our goal is to use the "Hero's Journey' formula to create our own stories and turn them into comic books!
On Monday, we had the privilege of being able to meet with two Calgary-based comic book artists; Zach Schuster and Riley Rossmo. Zach and Riley shared their experiences of working in the comic book industry and told us about the process of developing a comic book from script to coloured and inked pages. They said it takes an average of about seven hours to draw a single page! We all found inspiration in our conversation with them and we had some great questions to ask.
Both artists said that they find inspiration from reading other comic stories, so Mr. Kai and Mrs. Jones stopped at Another Dimension Comics to pick up some comic books for us to read during our Daily 5 time!
Ask your child about the story they're writing so far!

In our Science period, we finished up our Climate Change presentations! We all gathered around to hear some solutions to our climate crisis. We'll be moving on to studying electricity next!

In Phys. Ed., our basketball unit is coming along nicely. We've practice dribbling, passing, and shooting. We'll be working on defence next and we hope to get into to games fairly soon!

Important Information

  • As the weather continues to become colder, please ensure that you dress warmly. Jackets, snow pants, gloves, and hats are strongly recommended.
